ADLP Summer Courses

July 9 to August 17, 2007

The Center for the Advancement of Distinguished Language Proficiency (ADLP) Center is offering a professional-level course in Persian. The goal of this course is to advance highly proficient learners of Persian (ACTFL Advanced High/Superior/ ILR 2+/3/ DLPT 3) along the road to ultimate achievement of Distinguished/level 4 linguistic and cultural skills, the level required to use Persian competently in professional capacities. The Center for the Advancement of Distinguished Language Proficiency (ADLP) Center is offering a professional-level course in Persian. The Center for the Advancement of Distinguished Language Proficiency (ADLP) Center is offering two professional-level courses in Arabic and Persian. The goal of these courses is to prepare students to attain ILR (Interagency Language Roundtable) Level 4 language proficiency.

Arabic 501-502: Training for the Distinguished (Professional) Level of Arabic (ILR Level 4)

The courses include: intensive formative and summative diagnostic assessments, individualized instruction, introduction to the nature of professional-level language, active listening and reading strategies, debating, adjusting registers, levels and text types of written and oral discourse, interviewing, interpreting, nuanced reading of official press and other professional documents, and exercising other skills necessary to mastering professional-level Arabic. Persian 501-502: Training for the Distinguished (Professional) Level of Persian (ILR Level 4)

ADLP/CAST Combined Workshop - Characteristics of the Distinguished Level: Speech Typology Participants will learn about what constitutes a level 4 or distinguished text through exposure to a variety of speeches and oral expressions and discussion with national experts in the field of speech typology.
