LINKSThis page links to other web sites that provide a variety of kinds of help for the student seeking to reach Level 4. These include both informational sites and sites with learning materials. InformationThe Interagency Language Roundtable Descriptors provide definitions of all proficiency levels in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, including Level 4. The Mind Solutions International’s “Advanced SLA” page contains papers and articles on Level 4 language learning, as well as links to other sites. RussNet, on its “Superior-Distinguished Materials” page, includes the ILR Level 3 and 4 descriptors, as well as an expanded definition of Level 4 in a framework of communicative competence. The latter was developed by the National Foreign Language Center and published by C. Ingold in Developing Professional-Level Language Proficiency (B. L. Leaver & B. S. Shekhtman, editors, Cambridge University Press, 2002). Learning MaterialsThere are few sources for learning materials for students who wish to reach Level 4. Of course, authentic news reports, books, and speeches by native speakers can be found online. The ADLP Center seeks out sites that contain materials that students might be able to use in their quest for high-level foreign language proficiency. The following sites have been evaluated by our staff as appropriate for students at Level 3, seeking to reach Level 4. SpanishThe Digital Media Archive, a project of the Language Acquisition Resource Center at San Diego State University, contains a section on materials on Human Rights that will be challenging to students at upper levels of proficiency, as well as provide them with content information about this very important topic. |
